Description
Organic linseed oil has interesting nutritional properties and potential health benefits effects as it is a vegetable source of omega 3, omega 6, and omega 9 polyunsaturated essential fatty acids. This type of fatty acids is not manufactured by our body and therefore, we must introduce them into the body through our diet. Linseed oil contains around 50-60% of omega 3 in the form of alpha linolenic acid. Therefore, vegans or vegetarians have the option of adding this essential nutrient to their diet through linseed oil. (L. Guida, 2015).
Linseed is generally used to improve digestive health or relieve constipation. It also contains B, C and E vitamins, and minerals such as iron, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus (R. Salazar et al., 2020; L. Malcolmson, 2016).
Linseed oil may also help lower total blood cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or “bad”) cholesterol levels, which may help lower the risk of heart disease. It is also related to the treatment and prevention of atherosclerosis (obstruction of the arteries due to the accumulation of fatty substances in the walls of the arteries) and the reduction of blood pressure (E. N. Siguel, 1994; K. Prasad et al., 1997, B.H. Arjmandi et al., 1997).
